Calf Robe, Columbia Falls and Polson fastest at Piikunii Pass

BROWNING — Browning’s Koen Calf Robe and Polson’s Morgan Delaney were the fastest runners at the Piikunii Pass Invitational cross country meet Saturday, while Columbia Falls’ boys and Polson girls were the strongest teams.

Six full girls teams and eight boys squads competed at the meet, which Polson’s girls dominated with a 1-2-3-12-13 finish. Quinn Delaney (18 minutes, 40.91 seconds) and Sara Dumouchel were second and third for the Lady Pirates, and Taryn Cochran and Kimora Scott also scored well.  

Their total of 23 points was untouchable, though Whitefish scored an impressive 55. Columbia Falls was next at 76. 

Whitefish’s Kendall Dye was fourth and teammates Sierra Gibb and Sophie Douglas were 10th and 14th. Toren Wenz of Bigfork was eighth. Columbia Falls sophomore Tessa Pacheco finished 16th. 

While Calf Robe won the boys race in 16:50.21 — Polson’s Jackson Bontadelli was second — Columbia Falls’ Connor Jordan and Eamon Schule finished 3-4 and teammates Keian Moran and Gabe Coburn were eighth and 14th. The Wildcats had 43 poitns to 58 for Browing; Ronan was third at 83. 

Ean Flynn of Whitefish was 15th.

Bozeman Invite 

BOZEMAN — Eli Balkenbush led a strong team from Sheridan, Wyoming, at the Bozeman Invitational, which brought 28 high schools to Bridger Creek Golf Course. 

Balkenbush won the boys race in 15 minutes, 6.39 seconds, and Bozeman standout Taylor Neil was second at 15:10.90. The Broncs also had runners in sixth and 11th and scored 58 points to 82 for Bozeman and 113 for third-place Helena. 

Flathead competed well, scoring 243 points for seventh. Carson Thorne (16:26.94) took 17th and Chris Holland 20th for the Braves. 

Junior John Jermyn of Plains placed eighth. 

Bozeman’s Phoebe Maixner was the girls individual champion while Helena took the girls team crown with 84 points. Gallatin was next at 137 points and Casper (Wyoming) Kelly Walsh was third at 137. 

Everett Holland was Flathead’s top finisher, taking 52nd.
