LA JUENTA, Colo. — Brynlie Cornia, a freshman from Nibley, Utah, had 19 kills on the day for North Idaho College, which claimed two wins to open play at the Otero tournament on Friday.

NIC swept Central Wyoming 25-18, 26-24, 25-17 and then beat Lamar 23-25, 25-17, 25-19, 25-14 to improve to 11-4 on the season.

“Our goal was to find our rhythm in serve receive and passing above a 2.0 by the end of preseason,” NIC coach Drew Pascua said. “And we have done that the past two weekends. Lineups have been consistent so I’m sure that has helped the passers get spacing and communication down and we are getting quality first swings and are able to get our middles involved early, which has helped the offense speed up and become less predictable.”

Kika Peras, a freshman from Kotor, Montenegro, had 18 kills for NIC, which faces Gillette and Central Wyoming today to conclude the tournament.
