Clark Fork 3, Lakeside 0 

PLUMMER — After cruising past the Lakeside Knights in the first set, 25-13, the Clark Fork Wampus Cats found themselves in danger of doing something they haven’t done in over a week: losing a set. 

Clark Fork was down by seven points in the second set, with attacking errors putting them in a hole. 

“I told the girls, ‘You've created yourselves quite a pickle. Show me what it looks like to dig yourself out,’” Clark Fork head coach Lyndsie Kiebert-Carey recalled telling her team. 

The Wampus Cats showed their head coach exactly what their response would be as they stormed back to claim the second set 25-23.  

“They handled the challenge with a lot of poise,” Kiebert-Carey said. 

Clark Fork went back to their first-set selves in the third, taking it 25-10, to sweep Lakeside. The victory moved the Wampus Cats to 7-0 overall and marked their fourth straight sweep. 

Sophomore Kiylah Anderson stuffed the stat sheet for Clark Fork, leading the team with 26 assists and adding five aces, four digs and two kills. Kiebert-Carey said Anderson’s steadiness has been key to the Wampus Cats’ success. 

“I am asking a lot from her every single match, and she's applying the changes we need to continue leveling up as a team,” Kiebert-Carey said. 

Clark Fork’s scoring was led by freshman Grace Thompson, who totaled 10 kills, while sophomore Vanessa Rogier added nine kills. Kiebert-Carey said Lakeside served tough, but the team handled it well and operated a balanced attack within their system. 

The Wampus Cats’ head coach lauded the team’s recent backcourt passing, especially the play of junior libero Elyssa Raynor. 

“Raynor is an absolute game changer, even when it doesn't lead to eye-popping stats,” Kiebert-Carey said. “She is a huge reason for our success right now thanks to her communication and confidence.” 

After one road contest, Clark Fork will return to their gym for their next two matchups against Noxon on Sept. 14 and Wallace on Sept. 15. Both of those contests are scheduled to start at 7 p.m. 

Priest River 3, Orofino 0 

PRIEST RIVER — The Spartans extended their winning streak to five games as they breezed past the Orofino Maniacs in three sets, 25-17, 26-24, 25-18, at Priest River High on Thursday. 

Stats from the Spartans could not be collected in time for the Daily Bee’s print deadline. 

With the victory in the Central Idaho League match, Priest River improved to 5-1 overall and 1-0 in league play. The Spartans will head to St. Maries on Tuesday for another league match at 7 p.m.
