A woman is hoping someone has seen her lost dog after it was involved in an accident near the Bad Rock Canyon.
On Sept. 5 about 4 p.m. an ex-relative of Kaylee Bowman was in a single vehicle accident near at the House of Mystery on Highway 2.
Her dog, Cairo, was in the vehicle and survived the accident, but apparently fled the scene.
Cairo was last seen shortly after the accident, Bowman said. The dog is a 3-year-old Australian Shepherd about 35 pounds. Bowman, who lives in Texas, said she's been looking for the dog ever since.
It could have gone into the Bad Rock Wildlife Management area, but it's also believed it may be near the base of Columbia Mountain in the Monte Vista area.
The dog still had its leash on its collar when the accident occurred. It does have an identifying chip.
The search has not only been on the ground, but also in the air using a thermal imaging drone at night. There was an animal that came back to the same area a couple of nights, but still no sign of the dog.
Bowman has also tried setting up Cairo's kennel in the area in the hopes he would return to it.
People are asked to not approach the dog if they think they see it, but to take a picture and then call Flathead County Animal Control via 911.
Undersheriff Luke Foster said animal control is happy to help look for any dog that is lost. The office has four animal control officers and often finds lost dogs, but he also cautioned it's a big county and there are a lot of calls.
Editor's note: The dog was found a few days after the original story ran. The newspaper was unable to contact the owner for a follow up.
