Post Falls arrests 15 on immigration charges

Two months after joining the 287(g) program with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Post Falls police said Thursday they made 15 arrests of people suspected of violating federal immigration law.

ICE agents accompanied Post Falls Police officers during patrol operations from Aug. 24 to Aug. 28, according to a press release. The training and joint operations resulted in 13 arrests.

"During each arrest, officers determined through admissions, available records, or other evidence that the individuals had committed an immigration violation," the release said.

Post Falls Police later made two additional immigration violation arrests.

According to the release, the department said it does not anticipate that the number of arrests resulting from the training period will indicate future operations.

"Officers will continue to apply the skills and knowledge gained through the training as job requirements demand," the release said.
