Roundup for Safety awards $11k to local organizations

Three Northwest Montana organizations received a combined $11,000 in grants during the August meeting of the Roundup for Safety Board of Directors, supporting life safety projects focused on emergency response, workplace safety and outdoor recreation.

Libby United Methodist Church was awarded $1,500 to purchase an automated external defibrillator, or AED. The device will provide an important lifesaving resource for the church and people who use its facilities.

North Valley Food Bank received $8,000 toward the purchase of a forklift. The equipment will help staff and volunteers safely move large quantities of food and supplies as the organization works to serve families throughout the community.

Outdoor Community Partners was awarded $1,500 for an outdoor safety campaign aimed at recreationists using the Whitefish River. The campaign will help promote safe and responsible recreation along the popular local waterway.

Roundup for Safety is funded by Flathead Electric Cooperative members who voluntarily round up their monthly electric bills to the nearest dollar. Those small contributions are pooled together and awarded to eligible nonprofit organizations for projects that improve safety and help protect lives in the communities served by the Co-op. 

The Roundup for Safety board meets each month to review applications, hear brief presentations from applicants and determine which projects will receive funding.
