Applications open for Live Your Dream Awards

The Soroptimist Coeur d’Alene Club is now accepting applications for Live Your Dream: Education and Training Awards for Women, with applications closing Nov. 15. Women who serve as the primary wage-earner of their household and are seeking financial assistance to pursue education are invited to apply. Winners will receive cash awards ranging from $500 to 2,500.
The top recipient will advance to the Soroptimist Northwestern Regional level, with the opportunity to receive up to an additional $5000. Three Live Your Dream finalists will ultimately win grants of $10,000.
Live Your Dream Awards help women advance their careers by offsetting costs associated with education, including tuition, books, childcare, and transportation.
“We feel that single moms or any kind of moms are better off if they receive help for education,” said Live Your Dream Awards chair and past Soroptimist President Holly Cole.
The Soroptimist Club has financially supported women with these grants for 78 years, and Cole has seen these grants greatly benefit the Coeur d’Alene community. Women use the funds to graduate with degrees and earn more for their families.
“Most applicants are successful,” Cole said. “But we want to see that there is a real need for the scholarship.”
The applicant pool and number of grants awarded varies year by year. Last year, the applicant pool was smaller and 5 awards were given out. The year before, 10 women received awards. Cole said that applicants are judged based on factors such as application quality and financial need.
