SANDPOINT — In less time than the week prior, Bonner County commissioners completed all necessary business in 29 minutes in a brief business meeting Tuesday.  

Commissioners approved minimal items from county departments this week, only seeing requests from road and bridge, solid waste and the clerk’s office.  

Road and bridge was unanimously approved to purchase heavy truck tires from Premier Tire for $69,998.54. The tires, according to the department, will be used to outfit most of its heavy trucks.  

The department received additional quotes from Commercial Tire for $76,420.94, and Big Brand Tire & Services for $79,166.54. After reviewing the quotes and cost comparisons, a traditional practice for county departments, road and bridge selected Premier Tire. Labor is not included in the estimate.  

Solid waste was unanimously approved to accept a contract with Pacific Steel and Recycling for metal baling for the 2026-27 fiscal year. The company will be responsible for bailing and removing metal piles at the Colburn, Idaho Hill and Dickensheet collection sites in Bonner County.  

Pacific Steel and Recycling will pay $120 per ton to the department for bailing and removal.  

The department was also approved to accept a wood waste contract with Premier Industries. The contract will be applicable from Oct. 1, 2026, through Sept. 30, 2028. Premier Industries will be required to grind, transport and dispose of the wood piles at the Colburn, Idaho Hill and Dickensheet collection sites.  

As part of the contract, solid waste will pay Premier Industries $69.99 per ton.  

In other business news, county commissioners unanimously approved fiscal year ‘26 claims batch No. 50 totaling $532,238.48. Big items of the batch included approximately $202,000 for solid waste collection and removal operations, approximately $62,000 for asphalt from road and bridge and approximately $15,000 from the technology department for software.
