Fresh off dealing with some angry Vikings in Charlo last week, coach Michael Tatum and his Plains Horsemen will be contesting with some agitated Blackhawks in Seeley Lake Friday.

Now 1-2 in Western conference 8-Man league play, the Horsemen lost 28-0 to Charlo last Friday and will now face the 2-1 Seeley-Swan Blackhawks on the road Friday. Seeley suffered a tough 34-28 loss to St. Regis last week and will likely still be smarting from that.

Tatum thought his Horsemen played well at times but that inconsistent offense and untimely penalties put Plains in a bad way from the start against Charlo.

“This was a game of two halves,” he said. “The first half we were inconsistent on offense leading to some untimely penalties coupled with putting ourselves in bad field position, and Charlo was able to take advantage.

“The second half we settled down,” he added, “but just couldn't sustain enough offense to put together a scoring drive.”

Having some difficulty establishing a passing game, the Horsemen were led by Matthew Thurston, who picked up a team-high 49 yards rushing, and Wyatt Miller, who added 40 yards on kick returns.

Tatum said Plains played effective defense in the second half led by Billyray Hollota, who finished the game with a team-high 16 tackles. “Billyray put on a clinic at linebacker,” Tatum said. “Defensively, we held our own in the second half, limiting Charlo to a big play or two, but nothing like in the first half.”

Greg Tatum added nine tackles with one for a loss for the Horsemen, Miller and Jeff Siebert picked off Charlo passes and Gary Rehbein recovered a fumble.
