John Owen Jermyn won eighth place among 244 runners in the 5K boys varsity race to lead Plains cross country teams at the Bozeman Cross Country Invitational at the Bridge Creek golf course outside of Bozeman Saturday.

Coach Jesse Jermyn previously indicated that the Plains running teams would stay in Bozeman Sunday to help administer the popular Bozeman Half-Marathon event as a fund raiser for the program. Plains harriers return to action with the biggest regular season meet of the year in the Mountain West Invitational in Missoula Saturday.

The defending State B champion, John Owen clocked out in 16:10.37 for his impressive eighth place win against some of the best runners from all high school classifications in Montana in the boys varsity race at Bridger Creek, and Cord Greer finished in 17:02.61 for forty-second place individually.

In another very large field of 340 runners in the boys 5K junior varsity race, Plains competitors Bryan Lakko (21:35.60), Finnian Ercanbrack (22:09.47) and Riley Geenen (23:14.67) all finished in fine times, as did Emmy Russell (25:22.49), Annika Ercanbrack (26:12.55) and Kylie Silva (27:05.15) in the girls JV race, which featured 221 runners.

Seventh grader Jace Russell ran down eleventh place (11:18.04) in the 2,300 meter boys middle school race and Louis Jermyn, a sixth grader, placed 22nd among 72 runners in 12:09.13.

Another sixth grader, Gracelyn Larsen completed the girls middle school race in 14:25.74.
