A Kalispell man arrested during an early September disturbance on the city's west end allegedly told officers he planned to kill his roommate.  

John Michael Soule, 31, faces a felony assault with a weapon charge in Flathead County District Court following his Sept. 2 arrest. He is expected to appear before Judge Dan Wilson on Oct. 15 for his arraignment. 

Kalispell Police officers headed to Soule's Appleway Drive apartment after receiving reports of an individual threatening others with knives, according to court documents. The victim, Soule's roommate, told officers that the 31-year-old began making threats after mixing alcohol and sleeping pills, and had stabbed a kitchen table, court documents said. 

Officers arrived to find Soule outside and yelling at his roommate from about 10 feet away. Ordered to go to the ground, Soule instead went into the apartment, court documents alleged. He emerged not long after and appeared in front of officers with clenched hands and a puffed-out chest.  

Although several early attempts to take Soule down with Tasers proved ineffective, officers eventually got Soule onto the ground, court documents said. Handcuffed, Soule grew angrier and allegedly struggled with an officer. Several officers subsequently pinned him to the ground until he calmed down.  

Because Soule complained of an injury to his foot sustained during the struggle with officers, he was taken to a medical facility for treatment, according to court documents. During his time in the hospital, Soule allegedly insulted medical personnel.  

Interviewed by investigators, Soule admitted to grabbing knives and threatening his roommate, court documents said. He allegedly said his plan was to kill the other man.  

Soule also allegedly told investigators that his roommate remained in danger and that he planned to kill him upon being released from custody.  

If convicted of assault with a weapon, Soule faces up to 20 years behind bars and a $50,000 fine.
