PREP VOLLEYBALL: Post Falls sweeps for 2-0 start in 6A IEL

POST FALLS — Sophomore Lucy Smith totaled 18 assists, eight digs and an ace as the Post Falls Trojans swept the Lake City Timberwolves 25-23, 25-21, 25-14 in 6A Inland Empire League play Tuesday night at The Arena. 

Teresa Smith added eight kills and eight digs for Post Falls (7-1, 2-0 6A IEL). Peyton Barclift had eight kills and four blocks, Annabelle Tucker seven kills and four blocks, Lucy Carr 13 assists and an ace, Rylie Gump five blocks, Jude Laos nine digs. 

“Lake City’s defense and ball control really tested us tonight,” Post Falls coach Casey Cornett said. “They made us earn every single swing. We started a little flat, but the girls responded with great energy and closed out strong. I’m proud of their grit and the way they fought through to get the win.” 

For Lake City (9-3, 0-1 6A IEL), Camryn Woodman had 13 kills and 13 digs, Ella Jeanselme eight kills and two aces, Kate Moglia 25 assists and 10 digs, Sonia-Rei Fong 15 digs.  

“We made a run for it and actually played really well,” Lake City coach Michelle Kleinberg said. “Gave away some opportunities with missed serves and a handful of misfires in key moments, but I’m really pleased with how we stuck to our assignments and stayed aggressive offensively. It always hurts to lose but we’ve bounced back after each one so far and this one will be no different.” 

Next up for Post Falls and Lake City is the ThunderBee Volleyball Classic in Idaho Falls on Friday and Saturday.

Lewiston 

COEUR d’ALENE — Three days after beating Lewiston to win the Freeman Rip-A-Shot tournament, the Vikings defeated the Bengals again, this time 25-18, 25-17, 22-25, 25-20 at Viking Court. 

Sophomore Eva Callari had 13 kills and 14 digs for Coeur d’Alene (18-3). Jovie Le added 11 kills and two aces, Hannah Shafer and Emily Hackett 21 assists each, Embree McKeown 20 digs and two aces, Marly Sutich six blocks, Maren Larson four blocks. 

“We had a solid defensive performance, and our block was consistent and effective tonight,” Coeur d’Alene coach Carly Curtis said. “We showed a lot of resilience through several long rallies. Eva played a well-rounded match with great ball control, and placed her shots well. Jovie hit well and put together some strong serving runs. Our setters led the offense effectively and put our hitters in good position to be successful. Lewiston did a great job moving the ball around and tested us defensively.” 

Lewiston is 7-5. 

Coeur d’Alene returns to action Monday at Moscow.

RATHDRUM — Sophomore Maddi Justesen had eight kills and four aces as the host Hawks swept the Bears 25-14, 25-6, 25-21 in 5A Inland Empire League play at Hawk Court. 

Jolie Warren added eight kills for Lakeland (10-6, 2-0 5A IEL). Shasta Ackerman had 11 digs and five aces, Kindell Day 16 assists, Jaeli Hoffman eight assists, Anabel Bowie three blocks. 

Moscow is 0-6, 0-2. 

Lakeland plays host to Sandpoint on Thursday.

ST. MARIES — Senior Raevyn Yearout had 13 kills, 14 digs, four assists, two aces and nine service points for the Lumberjacks in a 25-13, 25-21, 25-15 loss to the visiting Spartans in Central Idaho League play. 

Lyssa Watkins had 24 assists and 10 service points for St. Maries (0-2 CIL). Senior Sadie Jones had eight service points and three digs, Bristal Thorhaug six digs and two kills, Letty Smith six service points and three kills, Dimercia Spooner six kills, eight digs, five assists and three blocks, Meijah Yearout six digs, four assists and two blocks, Rozlyn Shoemaker five digs. 

“Despite the loss, we reached some milestones as a team,” St. Maries coach Tammie Woster said. “I’m super proud of them and what they accomplished as a team. They’re beginning to put all the things from practice on the court, together. We had some passing and short-ball issues that first game, but they never got down. They just kept battling through it, together. Second game was close and we utilized our bench and I really think that helped  to slow that thinking down, just a bit. It is just enough of a break to reset and it worked well. The team played scrappy and we had some really good volleys. We’ll continue to work on that transition into net covers. We look forward to playing them again.” 

Priest River is 6-1, 2-0. 

St. Maries plays host to Grangeville on Thursday.

Lakeside 

COEUR d’ALENE — The Saints (6-1) defeated the visiting Knights (1-5) 25-12, 25-16, 21-25, 25-11 in nonleague play at Holy Family Catholic School. 

No other information was available. 

On Thursday, Lakeside plays host to Kootenai Classical Academy, and Coeur du Christ travels to Kootenai.
