Sports roundup: Valkyries, Vikings soccer falls to Columbia Falls

The Bigfork boys soccer team was held scoreless Thursday, Sept. 10 in a 0-3 Northwest A loss at Columbia Falls. 

The Vikings, still searching for their first win of the season, host Whitefish on Thursday.

The Bigfork girls fell to Columbia Falls 9-2, as Wildkats Riley Byrd and Onnikka Lawrence each scored hat tricks. Byrd opened the scoring just four minutes in with a goal from a Tatiana Raymond assist. 15 minutes later Byrd returned the favor as Raymond made it 2-0. 

Michaela Anders pulled one back for Bigfork in the first half, but Columbia Falls broke the game open with four goals in 11 minutes in the second half. 

“Bigfork is a well coached team and they brought a defensive approach that really caused us a lot of problems. The girls really figured it in the second half and we had a lot of success,” Wildkats coach Thomas Clark said.

Football

The Vikings were roughed up at home in a 40-0 loss to Beaverhead County on Friday, Sept. 11.

Bigfork quarterback Alex Ochs threw for 67 yards on 10 attempts. His top target was Cooper Porrovecchio with four catches for 53 yards. Cavin Wiest hauled in three passes for 28 yards.

The Vikings fell to 0-3 on the season, while Dillon moved to 1-2. Bigfork plays at Columbia Falls (2-1) on Friday.

Volleyball

The Valkyries produced mixed results on the volleyball court last week, topping Ronan 3-0 on Sept. 8, then narrowly falling to Polson at home, 3-2.

Bigfork tallied 33 kills against Ronan, led by senior Somer Campos. She also recorded 4 blocks in the win. As a team, Bigfork served up 10 aces.

Senior hitter Raegan Waller led Bigfork with 13 kills in the loss to Polson. The team tallied 46 in the tight five-set match. Setter Payton Despain was another top performer with 7 kills. 

Bigfork is 4-2 on the season.
