Lakeside goes to the dogs on Sept. 19 with the 31st annual Shriners Children's hospital Chili Cook-Off, Beerfest and Wiener Dog Races.

The event takes place at the Spinnaker Bar and Casino parking lot. Craft beer tasting begins at 3 p.m., chili tasting competition at 4 p.m. and dog registration at 5:30 p.m., followed by the parade of dogs and races.

Fees are $7 for children 10 and under, $15 buys adult spectators unlimited chili tasting and $25 gives unlimited chili tasting and craft beers.

All proceeds benefit the travel fund for caregivers of children who need services at the Shriners Children's hospital in Spokane, which provides medical services for free for children up to age 18.

Chili competitors pay a $25 entry fee and set up between 2:30-3 p.m., with a minimum of two gallons of chili and any extras such as serving utensils, an extension cord, side dishes, a table, chairs and an umbrella. Spinnaker provides power, cups, napkins and spoons. The competition will select the winner for People's Choice and Judges' Choice awards.

Dachshund handlers pay an entry fee of $5 and must have a starter and catcher for each dog. Registration is at 5:30 p.m. on the grassy area on the day of the race.
