Karin Wedemeyer deserves respect, not removal
Bonner County Daily Bee | UPDATED 1 month AGO
What has happened to Karin Wedemeyer should concern anyone who has ever built something from the ground up.
I am a Sandpoint High School and University of Idaho graduate. I’ve returned regularly through the years and enjoyed everything from the Bonner County Fair and the Sandpoint Farmer’s Market to performances at the Music Conservatory of Sandpoint.
I eventually cofounded a music education tech company with my husband, so I know what it takes to build your dream: vision, dedication, persistence, sacrifice on all levels and years of hard work. Karin has done all of that since 2009.
Her vision brought high-quality music education to children, helping them flourish in many areas of their lives. It also brought inspiring performances to this community, several of which I’ve been privileged to attend.
To see the board, led by Frank Geisler, push her aside as if her years of work and leadership meant nothing is wrong on so many levels. I understand that new people can bring new ideas, but that does not justify disrespecting or erasing the founder who is still fully capable of leading the organization she built.
I hope the Sandpoint community will continue asking questions and holding people accountable for their actions. We should be supporting and respecting those who spend their lives building something that makes other people’s lives better, not pushing them aside once the hard work has been done.
