LEWISTON — Nearly all Sandpoint golfers made the trip to Lewiston for two revealing meets against quality 6A/5A competition on Wednesday afternoon.  

For the boys varsity team, half of them played a round at the Lewiston Country Club and placed sixth out of seven schools with a 337 final score. The Bulldogs were led by Bode Eacret, who shot a 79. Sandpoint head coach Mike Deprez said Eacret wasn’t feeling well on Wednesday and thought that contributed to his score. 

Behind Eacret, Drake Reid and Miller Ely had solid outings, shooting an 83 and 86, respectively. The Bulldogs rounded out their scoring with Rajah Brown shooting an 89 to give them a total score of 337, beating only Moscow’s 343.  

Sandpoint’s Maverick Rohm shot a 95, though his score was not counted toward the team’s total. Deprez also had Beckett Fuller play this course as an individual, where he shot a 90. 

The other boys varsity golfers spent the day at the Bryden Canyon course, where they finished fifth of the seven schools, just missing a tie for second by three strokes. At Bryden Canyon, the Bulldogs were led by Landon Day, who shot an 80, followed by Camden Funderburg (85), Jamen Jensen (90) and Ryan Yake (99). 

On the girls side, the varsity team played their round at the Lewiston Country Club without Hailey Gove, due to an illness. The four girls posted a 425 total score, finishing fourth out of five schools. Hannah Majors had another solid day, with a 92, and was supported by Ella Mahlum (98), Evey Walker (112) and Ysabelle Lopez (123). 

At Bryden Canyon, Sandpoint only had three girls play and did not total a team score. Winslow Cox had the lowest score for the Bulldogs with a 130, followed by Phoebe Grimm (131) and Keely Houtrow (152). 

Deprez said his teams will work on their short game efficiency and be stingy with their shots.  

“Grind, plan and care on every shot,” Deprez said of his team’s mentality. 

The Sandpoint golf team will return to action next Monday with the Moscow Invitational at the University of Idaho Golf Course.
