Lakeland 5, Bonners Ferry 2 

RATHDRUM — After 10 days off, Bonners Ferry couldn’t keep up with the higher classification Lakeland Hawks on Thursday night, falling 5-2 in a non-league game. 

Lakeland, a 5A school, used their physicality against Bonners Ferry, a 4A school, giving them an early advantage. Matt Solis, the Badgers' head coach, said that the team struggled to get into the game. 

“It seemed like every time we started to find our groove, they stopped us again,” Solis said. “Physically and mentally, we never really got into the game.” 

Sophomore Miles Oxford and junior Josh Warner scored in the Badgers' showdown with the Hawks. Senior Kordale Burt made 10 saves against Lakeland as Bonners Ferry fell to 3-2-1 overall. 

“Sometimes, you need a loss like that to learn, grow, and improve,” Solis said. “A 5-2 loss definitely stings, but thankfully, we got the opportunity Saturday to turn the page and bounce back.” 

Bonners Ferry 4, Timberlake 0 

BONNERS FERRY — The Badgers bounced back in a big way, notching a 4-0 win over Intermountain League foe Timberlake on Saturday at Bonners Ferry.  

Solis said Bonners Ferry had to make changes to their formation due to injuries and personal reasons, but the team was not fazed. 

“It definitely wasn’t our cleanest game, but at the end of the day, getting the win was important for our record and, just as importantly, for the boys’ confidence,” Solis said. 

Senior Riley Beggarly returned to form with a brace while sophomore Dallin Baisden and freshman James Cederquist added a goal each to complete the Badgers’ comeback victory. Burt earned a clean sheet against the Tigers as the Badgers improved to 4-2-1 overall and 4-1 in league play. 

Bonners Ferry returns to action on Sept. 17 with a road game at St. Maries, whom the Badgers thumped 13-0 in the second game of the year, at 4 p.m. The Badgers will play a home game against Grangeville on Sept. 19 at 2 p.m. and a key home showdown with league powerhouse Coeur d'Alene Charter on Sept. 22 at 5 p.m. 

“We learn from the losses, we build on the wins, and we keep moving forward,” Solis said. “Come out and support your Bonners Ferry Badgers!” 

GIRLS 

Bonners Ferry 4, Orofino 0 

OROFINO — A prolonged break was no problem for the Bonners Ferry Badgers, who earned their third straight victory against Orofino in a non-league matchup on Friday. 

The Badgers scored two goals in the first half and two in the second to shut down the winless Maniacs. Bonners Ferry improved to 4-3 overall with the win. 

Timberlake 3, Bonners Ferry 0 

BONNERS FERRY — In their return home, Bonners Ferry was shut down by Intermountain League rival Timberlake on Saturday afternoon. 

Timberlake jumped out with a goal in the first half but sealed the deal in the second half with two goals. The Badgers fell to 4-4 overall and 3-3 in league play. 

Bonners Ferry 2, Kellogg 1 

BONNERS FERRY — The Badgers got back to their winning ways against the Kellogg Wildcats on Tuesday night, scoring twice in the first half to secure the Intermountain League victory. 

Bonners Ferry applied heavy pressure early, finally breaking the ice off a penalty kick goal in the 11th minute. The Badgers continued peppering the Wildcats’ keeper with shots throughout the first half before they scored their second goal in the 35th minute. A shot from the right corner couldn’t be handled by the keeper, allowing an easy tap-in for Bonners Ferry. 

With the win, the Badgers moved to 5-4 overall and 4-3 in league play. Next up for Bonners Ferry is a string of league opponent rematches. That kicks off with a trip to St. Maries on Sept. 17 at 6 p.m., then two home contests against Grangeville on Sept. 19 and Coeur d’Alene Charter on Sept. 22.
