St. Ignatius Seniors: National Falls Prevention week is Sept. 21-26

National Falls Prevention Week is Sept. 21-26 during the first week of fall. Nearly one out of three Montanans 65 and older fall each year. Falls are the leading cause of fatal and non-fatal injuries in older adults.

From Sept. 20-25, Montana Falls Prevention Program will be sharing Falls Prevention Messages on Facebook (Public Health in the 406), Instagram (@healthinthe406) and on X (@health406).

There is also a podcast, Talking Health in the 406, from Frances Mahon Deaconess Hospital that discusses fall prevention workshops and its Fall Prevention Program. This episode will be available Sept. 17.

The National Council on Aging (NCOA) offers a “Falls Free Checkup.” This quick, anonymous assessment of 13 yes-or-no questions helps individuals assess their fall risk and resources available to them. Open Medicare enrollment starts Oct. 15 and continues through Dec. 7. Call Area VI Agency on Aging to schedule an appointment: 406-883-7284.

The center hosts an AARP Drivers Classroom Course, 1-5 p.m. Oct. 6. Call 406-745-4462 to sign up. Cost is $20 for AARP members and $25 for nonmembers.

Bingo is Oct. 10 at 2 p.m.

Everyone is welcome at our meals (young and old). Come enjoy a delicious meal and good conversation. If you want a take-out meal, please call 406-745-4462 by 10 a.m. on Tuesday and Friday and by 2 p.m. on the first and third Wednesday; lunch is served at noon Tuesday and Friday and 5:30 p.m. Wednesdays. Menus for the month are available in the entryway.

Main dishes for the upcoming week include chicken legs with potato salad, Friday, Sept. 18; chicken and fry bread, Tuesday, Sept. 22; and taco salad with cantaloupe, Friday, Sept. 25. Milk is available at all meals.

Gentle yoga is 12:30 p.m. Wednesdays and costs $5 per week. Bring your own mat.
