Bravettes have strong first day at Butte Invitational

BUTTE — With a trio of golfers in the top 15, the Flathead Bravettes finished the first day of the Butte Invitational just one stroke out of third place Thursday at Fairmont Hot Springs.

Missoula Sentinel leads crosstown rival Big Sky by four strokes in the girls team race, with 371 strokes; Flathead checked in at 397, one stroke behind Helena Capital. 

Capital holds a one-stroke lead over Sentinel on the boys side; behind John Gilbert’s 70 the Bruins finished the first day with 300 strokes. Sentinel (301) and Butte (315) are next, followed by Glacier’s boys at 323.  

Torren Murray led the Wolfpack with a 77. 

Flathead, sixth as a team at 327 strokes, saw Teegan Eisenzimer shoot a 78 to position himself in the top 15 and ties. 

Flathead’s Becky Schmidt (sixth at 92), Ella Bubar and Hayden Ward are all amlong the top 15 girls heading into Friday’s closing round.  

Glacier, sixth in the team race, saw Maggie Mitton shoot 94 Thursday.
