Center of the Universe dedication this weekend

WALLACE — The Historic Wallace Chamber of Commerce will celebrate the 22nd annual Center of the Universe Rededication Ceremony on Saturday, Sept. 19, with a full day of community events, contests, live entertainment and fundraising activities culminating in the official rededication ceremony at 5 p.m. in downtown Wallace. 

The annual event honors Wallace's designation as the "Center of the Universe," a distinction rooted in the town's unique civic proclamation and embraced as one of the Silver Valley's most recognizable traditions. 

Festivities begin at noon and continue throughout the afternoon, alongside the Wallace Open Putt-Putt Golf Tournament, a community favorite that sends teams through a series of creative downtown course locations. The tournament's 2026 theme is "Boujee Brunch." Team captains will meet at 11:30 a.m. at the 1313 Club, with a shotgun start scheduled for noon and scorecards due by 4:30 p.m. 

Additional activities throughout the day include: 

- Silver raffle ticket sales from noon to 4:45 p.m. at Sixth and Bank streets. 

- The Elks Round Up Parade Drum & Bugle Band at 1 p.m. 

- A basket bracket wing-eating contest at 2 p.m. 

- The inaugural Wallace Parallel Parking Contest from 3 to 4:30 p.m. on Sixth Street near Cogs Gastropub. The contest will be judged and staffed by the Shoshone County Sheriff's Office. 

- Karaoke with John Weingart from 3:30 to 6 p.m. 

The official Center of the Universe Rededication Ceremony begins at 5 p.m. and will feature a reading of the original proclamation, commemorative toasts and the annual rededication observance. Organizers have also announced a special appearance by KHQ emcee Leslie Lowe. 

Following the ceremony, attendees can enjoy the Wallace Open awards presentation at 5:15 p.m., raffle basket drawings at 5:25 p.m. and the grand-prize silver raffle drawing at 5:35 p.m. 

A centerpiece of the celebration is the annual silver raffle. Only 500 tickets will be sold at $25 each, with the winner receiving 50 ounces of silver. Tickets are available through Johnson's Gems, WTF Fowl Mouths and the 1313 Club & Saloon. 

The Historic Wallace Chamber of Commerce encourages residents, visitors and former Wallace locals to join in the community celebration and experience one of the town's most distinctive annual traditions.
