A man will spend up to a decade in prison for abusing a memory care facility resident, according to the Kootenai County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.

David W. Feldbaumer, 68, of Arizona, pleaded guilty in June to abuse of a vulnerable adult, a felony, and battery, a misdemeanor.

First District Judge Casey Simmons sentenced Feldbaumer to 10 years in prison, the maximum possible sentence, with parole eligibility after eight years.

The charge stems from March 2026, when Feldbaumer was visiting a relative at a residential memory care facility. Prosecutors said a duty nurse noticed that a 79-year-old resident who had Alzheimer’s disease and dementia was missing from a scheduled activity.

While searching for the missing resident, the nurse caught Feldbaumer “having sex with the missing resident in a bathroom,” according to the prosecutor’s office.

“Once Feldbaumer realized he had been caught, he grabbed the nurse’s arm and begged her not to report the incident,” a news release said. “Feldbaumer only let go of the nurse’s arm after another nurse arrived on scene.”
