Lakeland 3, Sandpoint 0

RATHDRUM — The Sandpoint Bulldogs couldn’t overcome a slow start in an Inland Empire League game against the Lakeland Hawks on Thursday night, falling in three sets (14-25, 15-25, 23-25).

Sophomore Ali Gunter led the Bulldogs with 12 kills and was supported by another solid outing from setter Averi Mire, who totaled 15 assists on the night. Sandpoint head coach Karen Alsager said the team struggled to pass in the first two sets but found a rhythm in the final set.

Gunter added two blocks, as did junior Carlee Klippel, alongside seven digs. Senior Marlee Lane and sophomore Darby Rust added one ace each on the night, with Lane adding seven digs to her effort.

With the loss, Sandpoint falls to 3-6 on the season, and 1-1 in Inland Empire League play. The Bulldogs will play host to University High, from Washington, on Sept. 19 at 3 p.m. before jumping back into league play against Lewiston on Sept. 24 at Les Rogers Court at 7 p.m.

Kellogg 3, Priest River 0

KELLOGG — Priest River’s six-game winning streak was snuffed out by the undefeated Kellogg Wildcats on Thursday night in three sets (20-25, 13-25, 12-25) in a Central Idaho league game.

Junior McKinley Burgess-Duquette led the Spartans in kills with four, adding one ace and 11 digs to her total against the Wildcats. Freshman Ava Griesemer and senior Rylee Dixon had an impressive night at the net, both notching three blocks each.

Senior Callie Stanger led Priest River with 16 digs, with Turner adding eight and senior Haylee Jepson-Church adding six. Jepson-Church also totaled all nine of the Spartans’ assists.

With its first loss since late August, Priest River falls to 6-2 and 2-1 in the 3A Central Idaho League. The Spartans will host Riverside on Sept. 21 at 7 p.m. before they’ll try to get their revenge against the Wildcats at Priest River High on Sept. 22 at 7 p.m.
