Morgan Delaney wins Mountain West Classic

MISSOULA — Morgan Delaney continues to crush it in 2026, winning the prestigious Mountain West Classic at the University of Montana Golf Course Saturday.

The Polson senior finished the 5,000-meter course in 17 minutes, 50.3 seconds; Bozeman sophomore Phoebe Maixner was a close second, in 17:52.1, and Missoula Hellgate’s Reed Stromberg was third at 17:58.0. 

Glacier standouts Lauren Bissen (18:16.4) and Ada Thiel (18:25.5) were fourth and fifth, and Polson’s Quinn Delaney (18:26.7) and Libby’s Capri Farmer (18:30.6) gave the girls top seven a distinct Western Montana feel. Bissen won the girls race in 2024. 

Fifty-five full girls teams competed and 86 schools were represented. Helena won the girls team title at 122 points, followed by Bozeman at 146 and Gallatin at 153.  

Hellgate was fourth and Glacier fifth; Polson was the top Class A team, taking eighth. 

Flathead’s girls with 14th, with Everett Holland placing 43rd to lead the way. Her time was 20:00.4. Fellow junior Emery Eash was the next Bravette to finish, at 83rd overall. 

Bozeman, led by individual champion Taylor Neil, took the boys team title with 85 points, with Helena (98) and Class A power Hardin (181) going 2-3. Sugar-Salem (Sugar City, Idaho) was fourth; the Diggers’ Darrel Dickson was second in the boys individual race at 15:21.0; Neil won in 15:14.4. Neil’s win marked the fourth by a Hawk in the last five meets, with Glacier’s Owen Thiel breaking up the run. 

Glacier was ninth and Flathead 10th among the boys teams. 

Junior Nathan Turner was the Wolfpack’s top finisher, taking 34th in 16:44.2. Max Mangold (16:52.0) was 42nd overall. 

For Flathead, Brodyn Deshaw was 22nd overall, with a time of 16:34.8. Teammate Chris Holland was 24th at 16:38.7.
