MOSES LAKE — A Moses Lake woman is in custody after reportedly setting her trailer on fire with her 4-year-old daughter inside Sunday, according to a statement from the Moses Lake Police Dept.
Kristin Marie Stepper, 37, was booked into Grant County Jail on charges of first-degree arson, reckless endangerment and second-degree criminal mistreatment, according to jail records.
At about 12:10 p.m., police received a report of a trailer fire on West Marina Drive, according to the MLPD report. When they contacted Stepper at the trailer, she admitted to setting the fire with herself and her daughter inside.
There was no indication that anybody else was inside the trailer, according to MLPD Capt. Mike Williams, the department’s public information officer. Stepper and her daughter both had burned hair, but no other injuries. Officers located a gas can and evidence of accelerants, according to the statement.
The child was taken into custody by Child Protective Services, according to the statement.
Stepper was motivated by a family dispute involving theft, Williams said, but details were not yet clear. The MLPD is continuing to investigate. No bail had been set for Stepper as of Monday afternoon.
