Glacier boys, Flathead girls 4th at midpoint of Western AA golf

BUTTE — Helena Capital and Missoula Sentinel filled up the boys leaderboard and not surprisingly are in a tight fight at the Western AA Divisional after Monday’s first round at the Butte Country Club.
Sentinel’s Cole Jenkins has a one-stroke lead over Capital’s Jayce Belzer after shooting even-par 70; two more Spartans are among the top 10 individuals.
Capital has five in the top 15 and a one stroke lead in the team race over the Spartans, 301-302. Butte is third at 310 strokes and Glacier is fourth at 316. The Wolfpack’s Torren Murray shot 76 Monday and teammate Louis Groom came in at 78.
Flathead is eighth among the boys teams, with Easton Coopman and Alexander Dunkley shooting 89, tied for 27th place.
Missoula Big Sky has a stronger lead in the girls team race: 12 strokes over Sentinel. Charlotte Dale shot an 86 to take a one-stroke lead over Sentinel’s Maci Reiff, and three more Eagles are in the top 15 to help their team to a 369 total.
Sentinel came in at 381, Capital 401 and Flathead 410 — two strokes ahead of Glacier.
The Wolfpack’s Maggie Mitton is tied for sixth after the first round at 92; teammate Lillie Groom is tied for 12th with Flathead’s Becky Schmidt at 989.
Hayden Ward is the top Bravette after 18, shooting a 96.
The tournament concludes on Tuesday.
