The community is invited to celebrate the Kootenai National Forest at the fifth annual Kootenai Forest Fair, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, at Riverfront Park in Libby.

Hosted by the Kootenai Forest Stakeholders Coalition (KFSC), the free, family-friendly event brings together organizations, agencies, businesses and community members who work in, recreate on and care about the Kootenai National Forest.

The afternoon will feature an obstacle course, BINGO, raffle prizes, free beer, food, live music, Smokey Bear, educational booths and activities for all ages.

This year’s raffle features an exciting lineup of prizes, including a unit of lumber, a guided river float, backpack, small chainsaw, cooler, and guided hike. The raffle is a fun way for attendees to support the Forest Fair while having a chance to take home some great outdoor and recreation prizes.

More than 20 participating organizations will also share information and resources on topics including wildfire and fire safety, climate, hunting, recreation, forestry and logging, bear safety, water safety, conservation and responsible forest stewardship.

The Kootenai National Forest encompasses approximately 2.2 million acres in northwestern Montana and provides a wide range of opportunities and resources, including outdoor recreation, timber production, wildlife habitat, mineral resources, hunting and fishing, and expansive wild landscapes.

KFSC is a collaborative organization that brings together diverse stakeholders with an interest in the management and future of the Kootenai National Forest. The Forest Fair provides an informal setting where community members can meet the people working across the forest, learn about current projects and issues, ask questions, and discover opportunities to become involved.

“The Kootenai National Forest is woven into the lives and livelihoods of the communities that surround it. It supports our local economy, provides timber and other natural resources, offers outstanding opportunities for hunting, fishing and recreation, and gives us wild places that make this area so special. The Forest Fair brings people together to celebrate all the forest provides, learn from one another, and encourage stewardship that will keep our forest and communities strong for generations to come,”  KFSC's Juli Thurston.

Whether you work in the woods, spend your weekends exploring the forest, or simply want to learn more about the landscape surrounding our communities, the Kootenai Forest Fair offers something for everyone.

The Kootenai Forest Stakeholders Coalition extends a special thank you to the Montana Department of Commerce and Green Diamond Resource Company for sponsoring this year’s Forest Fair and helping make this free community event possible.
