A Libby man is accused of pointing a shotgun at three employees of a local moving company.

Larry Allen Meyer, 77, is charged with three felony counts of assault with a weapon. 

Meyer was scheduled to be arraigned Monday in Lincoln County District Court.

Meyer was originally held in the Lincoln County Detention Center on $50,000 bail before his release on his own recognizance after a defense motion that was not contested by the prosecution.

Part of Meyer’s release terms include he not possess or use firearms, illegal drugs or alcohol and remain law abiding.

According to the affidavit of probable cause, county deputy Tucker Winn responded to a Reserve Road home where movers were assisting the residents pack their belongings on Aug. 30 when Meyer became upset and told them to “get the (expletive) out. 

Meyer’s wife calmed him and got him to go to his bedroom. She then welcomed the movers to continue their work.

But it wasn’t long before Meyer came out with a shotgun, operated the pump in an apparent attempt to load the weapon. When one of the victims heard the sound, he looked around the corner into a hallway and saw the barrel of the gun pointed at him, about 8 feet away, according to the charging document. Meyer allegedly told the movers to leave the home.

One of the movers ducked back into a room before peeking around the corner and the defendant allegedly pointed the shotgun at him.

Meyer’s wife came downstairs and got her husband to return to his room. The three alleged victims left and two made statements regarding the incident. They said they heard Meyer ask his wife if she too wanted to get shot on their way out of the home.

The prison term for a conviction on the aforementioned charge is 20 years.
