A trailer that broke loose snarled traffic along West Broadway Avenue in Moses Lake and temporarily closed the road Monday afternoon.

MOSES LAKE — No injuries were reported when a trailer broke loose from its hitch and crossed all five lanes of traffic on West Broadway Avenue Monday afternoon. The crash temporarily closed West Broadway and snarled traffic for about five hours.
The trailer was being towed by a truck driven by Blaine Tull, 81, Roundup, Montana, said Captain Mike Williams of the Moses Lake Police Department. Tull was exiting the freeway at the westbound ramp.
"He came up the ramp; he was going too fast and somehow the trailer broke loose," Williams said.
Tull was attempting to control his vehicle and trailer, ran the stop sign, and turned away from traffic in an attempt to avoid it. The trailer slid across the road.
"Fortunately, no one was occupying those lanes when it rolled through, so there were no injuries," Williams said.
The trailer was heavily damaged, with a section of one side coming loose, falling out and scattering debris. Tull's truck was damaged as well.
The crash was reported at about 4:15 p.m., Williams said, and the road was closed at about 5:15 p.m. It was reopened at about 8 p.m., but crews were on the scene cleaning debris until about 9 p.m.

Grant County Fire District 3 releases updated strategic plan
QUINCY — As Grant County Fire District 3 grows, the need for services grows. That being the case, GCFD 3 officials prepared and released a new strategic plan to map out how they are going to meet those needs. Chief David Durfee said the district officials will be reviewing it every year to see if they're heading in the preferred direction, or if circumstances have changed and the direction needs to change. "We're going to work to those goals over time," said GCFD 3 Commission Chair Randy Zolman.
Advisory vote on possible sales tax increase in Grant County on November ballot
EPHRATA — Grant County voters will be asked for their opinions on a possible one-tenth of one percent increase in the sales and use tax to fund additional mental health services - but they're not being asked to approve an increase. The request, which is called an advisory vote, will be on the November general election ballot. Grant County Administrator Tom Gaines emphasized the vote is advisory only and won't actually impose the tax. Whether or not it's implemented will be up to the Grant County Commissioners.
