Whitefish Review hosts author David James Duncan on Oct. 1

Whitefish Review will host author David James Duncan on Thursday, Oct. 1 at 101 Central in downtown Whitefish.  

“We are thrilled to bring our community together for a reading and conversation about David’s life and work,” said founding editor Brian Schott. 

Duncan is the author of the classic novels The River Why (1983) and The Brothers K (1992), the story collection River Teeth (1995), the nonfiction collection and National Book Award finalist, My Story as Told by Water (2001), the best-selling collection of “churchless sermons," God Laughs & Plays (2006), and the novel Sun House (2023). 

Cocktails and music start at 7 pm. Books from Duncan’s body of work will be available for purchase and signing by the author. 

A reading from a variety of Duncan’s books and a conversation with Whitefish Review founding editor Brian Schott will run from 7:30-8:30 p.m., starting with a song from Jo Smith, a singer-songwriter who is a key figure in the Whitefish music scene and the founder of Big Sky Troubadours.  

The event is free, a thank you to the community for its support of the journal over the past 19 years. The evening will also involve partners from The Flyfish Journal, with copies available to attendees.

Whitefish Review was founded in 2007 and explores the landscapes of the human condition, our connection to the natural world, and illuminates how the confluence of art and science, alongside the complex issues of our planet and people, is vital for the health of all beings.
