Byron James Fitch

Byron James Fitch passed from his mortal body at the age of 84 into Heaven on Oct. 20, 2025. 

Byron dedicated his life to caring for the earth, spending 35 years working for the USDA Soil Conservation Service. Following this, he served as a Chemigation Specialist for the Washington State Department of Agriculture for 15 years, retiring in 2011. His love of nature and stewardship of the land was evident not only in his career but also in his personal interests. Byron enjoyed camping throughout the Pacific Northwest and took great pride in maintaining his property on Moscow Mountain in Idaho.

Byron was also passionate about woodworking, skillfully crafting beautiful pieces with his lathe and hands for family and friends. His devotion extended beyond his craft and the natural world to his faith. As a committed follower of Jesus Christ, Byron dedicated countless hours to serving God and his fellow believers. He led Bible study groups and youth groups, and participated in outreach programs such as Celebrate Recovery, Walk to Emmaus, Chrysalis, and Soul Café. Byron leaves behind a legacy of service, faith, and love.

He is survived by his two siblings, Clelia (Bob) Callahan and Duane (Sharon) Fitch; his three children Heather (Chris) Olson, Erica (Evert) Higley and Michael (Pamela) Fitch; and six grandchildren.

A celebration of life gathering will be held on Oct. 3, 2026, at 2 p.m. at the Palouse River Community Center in Princeton, Idaho. Light refreshments will be served as we come together to remember Byron and honor the profound impact he had on our lives.
