Horsemen fall to Blackhawks; eye Warriors next
JOHN HAMILTON | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 1 month, 1 week AGO
The Plains Horsemen made some great plays, but the game went Seeley-Swan’s way as the Blackhawks defeated the Horsemen 58-6 in Western 8-Man conference action in Seeley Lake Friday.
Now 1-3 in league play, coach Michael Tatum and his Horsemen travel to Arlee for a Thursday night game with the Warriors this week.
Tatum said there was a lot of respect both ways between the teams in Seeley Lake.
“It was a tough matchup against a balanced opponent with a lot of depth,” Tatum said. “On top of that, they were a class act.”
Tatum said there were rays of hope shining for his boys. “On our side of the ball, we saw some bright spots from some of our younger players,” he said, “along with great senior leadership.”
Tatum said freshman Levi Sturdivant stepped into the starting quarterback role for the Horsemen and ended up throwing his first varsity touchdown pass, an eight-yard scoring strike to coach Tatum’s senior son Greg.
Coach said that TD was set up by a fumble recovery deep in Seeley-Swan territory by Plains freshman Reece Cummings.
Senior Matthew Thurston also enjoyed a fine game on the defensive side for Plains, pulling down a team-high 12 tackles. “Matt has an amazing sense for the ball and always seems to be in the right place at the right time.”
Also on the defense for the Horsemen, junior Jeff Siebert picked off another interception giving him two for the season, Tatum said, adding that Siebert also had 50 yards in kick-returns against Seeley.
