Roger Dennis Garfield, 85

It is with great sadness that the family of Roger Dennis Garfield announces his passing Sept. 18, 2026, at the age of 85.

Roger was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He will be lovingly remembered by his daughters, Lynell and Jennifer (Jason); grandchildren Taylor, Kassidy, and August; sister Susan Edwards; brother-in-law John (Connie) Soron; sisters-in-law Susan Waldron and Jan Soron; and numerous other relatives and friends. Roger was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Kathy; his brother, Dexter; and his parents, Katherine and Donald Garfield.

Growing up in Ashtabula, Ohio, along the shores of Lake Erie, Roger was mesmerized by the ships that passed through. He often reflected on that time as idyllic, simple, and pure. It was there that he discovered his calling in the maritime industry, beginning a career that would take him on many adventures.

In 1969, a fellow sailor arranged a blind date that would change his life. Roger met the love of his life, Kathy. They married just five months after their first meeting and began a lifetime of adventures together.

After retiring from Mobil Oil, Roger and Kathy spent a decade traveling, meeting new friends, and exploring the United States. Their life together was filled with love, discovery, and cherished memories.

Roger will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his love of the sea, and the many stories and adventures he shared with those around him.

A private service will be held at a later date.
