Sports roundup: Soccer teams go toe-to-toe with tough Whitefish squads

The Bigfork boys soccer team battled at home against Whitefish, but ultimately dropped the conference match, 0-1.

Bigfork keeper Mason Davey kept the Vikings alive as the Bulldogs pounded the net with 15 shots on goal. A shot by Whitefish freshman Roen Chisholm slipped though in the 54th minute, for the game's lone goal.

The boys rebounded Saturday with a 4-0 shut out over nonconference Thompson Falls. The win put the Vikings at 1-5-1 overall.

The Valkyries scored first against Whitefish, but a hat trick by the Lady Bulldogs' Neva Sliman was too much for Bigfork to overcome.

The host Valkyries claimed the early advantage on a second-minute goal from Sofie Albierto. Sliman scored the equalizer 12 minutes later.

Gwenna Lustig knocked in a free kick for Bigfork at the 45th minute to start the second half.

The girls notched a win on Saturday, topping Thompson Falls 6-0 in a nonconference match. The Valkyries led 5-0 at halftime.

Volleyball

Raegan Waller had 11 kills and 17 digs and the Bigfork Valkyries were able to sweep Whitefish in Northwest A volleyball Tuesday.

Payton Despain had 35 assists on 38 team kills for the Vals and also had two blocks. Emily Wisman added six kills for Bigfork; Lillie Suffia had three aces and two blocks. 

Sophia Lowell added three aces. 

Cross-country

Bigfork senior Otto Schurke clocked a 19:36 in the varsity boys race at the competitve Mountain West Classic in Missoula. The time placed him 296th in the field that included 499 racers.

Bozeman's Taylor Neil won the race at 15:14.

Bigfork's JV boys team was led by freshman Quin Creamer with a 20:10, just ahead of teammate Josh Gustavson at 20:20.

The Valkyries JV squad was paced by Toren Wenz at 20:31.
