Unbeaten Tigers host Darby in in key Western C tilt

One team of Tigers will walk away with the advantage and the other with damaged but still alive playoff hopes.

The St. Regis Tigers host the Darby Tigers Friday night in a battle of Western C division 8-Man unbeatens, with both teams being 4-0 counting forfeits acquired to this point.

Darby reinforced its street cred with an impressive 50-26 road win over fellow Western C contender Mission last week.

Coach Jesse Allan and his St. Regis Tigers took down the Charlo Vikings 62-18 in Charlo Friday in demonstration of their football proficiency.

What’s more, the game between Darby and St. Regis is not the only important 8-Man tilt in Mineral County Friday as two other Western C prime time players, 4-0 Superior and 3-1 Seeley-Swan, will also mix it up in Superior Friday

“This is a big week of football for Western C,” Allan said. “Darby is good, they have a nice combination of speed and size, and are challenging to scheme against. We are going to have to stay disciplined on defense and tackle well.”

The Tigers obviously stayed disciplined and tackled well in their win over Charlo last week.

As usual so far this season, senior co-captains Conner Lulis and Nathan Bohn led St. Regis.

Lulis completed 17 of 24 passes for three touchdowns and rushed for two more scores from his quarterback position, while Bohn caught seven of those passes for three touchdowns and over 100 yards receiving from his slotback position for the night, something he has done every game so far this season.

Allan said Bohn has also turned into the Tiger’s leader on defense this season, filling the shoes vacated by Barrett Bessette for last year’s St. Regis playoff team.

Sophomore Tucker Desoto has also stepped up into a more prominent role, Allan offered. “Tucker had a great game,” he said. “He’s having a heck of a sophomore season so far, likes to hit on defense and continues making some pretty spectacular plays on both sides of the ball.”

Allan was complimentary towards Charlo. “We knew we had some advantages versus their secondary and were able to capitalize on those early, but the Charlo kids battled all night,” he added. “I’m glad they were able to make some plays in the first half and score a few touchdowns on their homecoming.”
