Undefeated Bobcats host Blackhawks for homecoming

The unbeaten and largely unchallenged Superior Bobcats are ready for some red meat, and here comes the Seeley-Swan Blackhawks.

Improving to 4-0 with an 80-26 win over visiting Clark Fork last Friday, the town of Superior is bracing for the Bobcats’ annual homecoming game and its associated activities against 3-1 Seeley-Swan this Friday in a high-stakes Western 8-Man conference game.

Coach Jeff Schultz and his Bobcats could gain the inside track to the playoffs and possibly the regular season division title with a win Friday. Other key games with Darby, Mission and Mineral County rival St. Regis await in October.

The revenge motive could be a factor Friday as well.

“This is it, the meat of the schedule, the part of the season we have been aiming for. We’ve lost to Seeley the last two years, and they are the defending division champs until somebody beats them,” Schultz said. "They have good size and speed, are a dangerous team, we expect a tight game.”

This year’s Bobcats could be excused for not knowing what a tight game is like. Friday’s win over Clark Fork was another blowout capping a string of blowout victories where Superior has outscored the opposition 282-46 cumulatively.

Schultz said a lot of the Bobcats’ success this season can be traced directly back to the strong interior line play of the stellar trio of Roy Talbot, Jack Kemp and Amarie Johnson. “Those guys have been dominant up front, have absolutely controlled the line of scrimmage,” Schultz said. “They have been key to our success so far this season, and Clark Fork was no exception to that.”

Playing behind that imposing front line, and with quarterback Landon Richards capably directing the attack, fellow seniors Turner Milender and Gannon Quinlan went off offensively yet again, on the unsuspecting Wampus Cats this time.

Milender crashed through the line of scrimmage for 150 yards rushing and scored five touchdowns and Quinlan was his usual ubiquitous self, rushing for two touchdowns,

catching passes from Richards for two others and scoring yet another on a kickoff return, finishing with 96 yards of total offense

Richards ended the game with 96 yards passing and 18 rushing, John Hughes 28 yards receiving, James Chapen 28 yards rushing and Ethan Durovey 19 yards rushing.

Milender again led the stingy Bobcat defense with 15 tackles, including seven unassisted stops, Quinlan added 10 tackles with four solo stops, Hughes eight and four, and Kemp six and two.

Schultz was impressed with Clark Fork in spite of the final score.

“They had some big boys on the line, and a huge running back and quarterback,” he said. “Another good looking Idaho team.”

The Bobcats also played the Clearwater Valley Rams of Kooskia, Idaho on a 100-yard field in Idaho two weeks ago. The games with Idaho opponents were successfully scheduled late to replace forfeited 8-Man contests in Montana with Troy and Victor.
