The Whitefish Theatre Company opens its 2026-2027 Black Curtain series with “The White Chip” by Sean Daniels, a dry comedy about drying out. “The White Chip” will be presented Sept. 26 at 7:30 p.m. and Sept. 27 at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. at the O’Shaughnessy Center in Whitefish.
Despite spending more time drunk than sober, Steven McAlister managed to graduate from college, create an extremely successful theater group, get married, and thrive in a dream job at one of the most prestigious regional theaters in the United States. It’s gratifying to go to an AA meeting where they reward you with a white chip just for showing up, but does he really have a problem?
With an ailing father, a marriage on the rocks and his professional life careening out of control, Steven has constructed a careful balancing act that keeps it all together, until it all falls apart. A dark comedy, The White Chip is a deeply relatable look at addiction and how sometimes hitting rock bottom might be the best shot at recovery.
Starring Matt Strool, Andrew Matulionis and CrisMarie Campbell, “The White Chip” uses just three actors to bring Steven’s story to life. While Steven, played by Strool, serves as the central figure, Matulionis and Campbell take on the many men and women who cross his path throughout his journey, moving between family members, friends, colleagues and others who shape his experiences with addiction and recovery.
This show is generously sponsored by Sukey Pfirman and Tim Strand, Masterpiece Carpet One/Stuart Green, John and Marianne Evenhuis, Tru Green/Deborah Roberts, and an anonymous sponsor.
Tickets for reserved seating are $12 for adults and $10 for students. As a Black Curtain production, there will be minimal set, props and costumes, and the actors will be reading from scripts.
