Wyman impresses at Olympic Trials Games Preparation Camp

PITTSBURGH — Sandpoint star Campbell Wyman starred at the highly selective Olympic Trials Games Preparation Camp in Pennsylvania last weekend. 

The local star endured long hours, from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. every day, fighting through jet lag to show up every morning. Wyman went with Emily Renzini, head coach of the Sandpoint Sharks, who said that he handled the schedule and training like a champion. 

"Getting to watch him train at this camp was something completely different. I got to see Campbell train on another level," Renzini said. “The focus, the determination, the work ethic, the ability to keep pushing when he was tired and the excitement he has for swimming. It was absolutely incredible to watch." 

Wyman, who swims for the Sandpoint Sharks and the Sandpoint Special Olympics team, was selected to represent Team Idaho at the 2026 Special Olympics USA Games. He previously won gold in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:37.34), 25-yard freestyle (15.79), and 200-yard individual medley (3:20.44) at the Northern Summer Regionals earlier this year.  

At the USA Games, Wyman recorded a 5.36 in the 25-yard freestyle prelims, 16.04 in the final and a 3:09.12 in the 200-yard individual medley final. He also posted a 1:36.68 in the 100-yard breaststroke prelims. 

At the prep camp, Wyman was fighting for a chance to be selected to represent the United States at the 2027 Special Olympics World Games in Santiago, Chile. 

"Campbell's USA Games experience was an important step toward that opportunity, and now we are waiting to see what comes next," Renzini said. "I truly don't have the words to explain how proud I am of Campbell. Watching all of the long practices, hard work and dedication finally lead to opportunities like this has been incredibly special." 

Renzini said Wyman will find out this week if he is selected for the Olympic team, but added no matter what, he has accomplished something incredibly special.
