Law roundup: Cops nick newspaper thief

Someone called the Kalispell Police Department to report the theft of newspapers. Moreover, they had video footage of the paper purloiner in the act. Officers later cited and released the sneakthief.  

Someone reported misplacing a black bag containing $25,000 in cash, a 24-carot gold bar, house deed and car title. They thought maybe they left it on the roof of their car as they drove away. 

Employees at a store asked officers to remind a woman that she had been banned from the premises after a manager discovered her hanging out in the makeup aisle.  

Angered after getting into an argument with a teenage motorist, a man asked the police to intervene. He said he yelled at the younger driver because the youth was speeding. The teenager then followed him to a parking lot, pulled up alongside him and began arguing with him. He was floored when the officers told him he would need to provide a written statement if he wanted them to pursue charges. He told the police just to check their Flock cameras. Those cameras, the officers pointed out, belonged to a private business. Irate, the man began shouting and then hung up.  

Tired of hearing a neighbor's dog barking, a woman alerted the authorities. She said the barking starts about 7:30 a.m. and goes on for about 50 minutes. When officers spoke with the dog's owner, they learned that he is usually home but has been leaving to go hunting lately, which might account for the dog's boisterousness. They recommended he look into bark collars and kenneling the dog indoors.  

A man apparently tried to open someone's apartment door several times. 

A neighbor asked the police to handle the noise of a barking dog. An officer stopped by and hung out outside for about 10 minutes, but reported hearing no barking.  

A hotel guest told the police that an employee made her feel unsafe, accusing him of coming around the desk to yell at her, telling her to leave. She said she was scared and crying after the confrontation. Officers checked in with the hotel manager, who recalled the incident and said that they only denied the woman an extension of her stay. The woman's group had snuck dogs into the hotel and been caught smoking in the room, he said.
