Lonny Ellison, 58

July 29, 1968 — Sept. 20, 2026

Lonny Dwayne Ellison came into this world July 29, 1968, surrounded by love. He was the son of Linda Curl Stanley and Ralph “Sonny” Ellison, and he was blessed to have a wonderful bonus dad, Doug Stanley, who was an important part of his life, and an amazing stepmom, Birdie Ellison.

Lonny was one of four siblings and was blessed with four amazing brothers and sisters: Ralph Ellison, Sis (Tim) Ellison Little, Matt Stanley, and Tina (Tony) Ellison Eaton.

In 1996, Lonny married the love of his life, Amber Davis Ellison. Through their marriage, he gained two boys whom he loved and treated as his own, Josh Greenwood and Nick Thurston. On April 5, 2000, Lonny welcomed his first biological child, Austin Dwayne Ellison, into the world. Being a husband, father, and grandfather was one of the greatest joys of his life. Lonny was blessed with 13 wonderful grandchildren, who brought him countless moments of love and happiness.

From a young age, Lonny loved sports. He played football and spent many years surrounded by some of his lifelong best friends, including Chris Cook and Napo Jemmings. He also ran track and played basketball. Like many young men, Lonny enjoyed chasing the ladies and had a way with words that made him quite the smooth talker.

After graduating from high school, Lonny left Wallace to pursue his dream of becoming a hard-rock miner. His determination and strong work ethic took him around the world. He worked underground in mines in Guatemala and throughout the northern United States.

Lonny eventually became a business owner in Elko, Nev., alongside his good friend, Fred Christensen. Mining was more than just a career for Lonny — it was a life he was proud to build through hard work, adventure, and perseverance.

In February 2016, Lonny suffered serious health issues that brought an end to his mining career. Despite the challenges that followed, he remained deeply loved by his family and friends.

Lonny leaves behind a family who loved him deeply and who will forever carry his memory in their hearts. Though his passing leaves an emptiness that cannot be filled, his family finds comfort knowing that he is finally at peace and reunited with the loved ones who went before him, including both of his fathers, Doug Stanley and Ralph “Sonny” Ellison, as well as Arline Stanley and Janelle Flores.

Lonny will be remembered for his love of family, his friendships, his sense of humor, his adventurous spirit, and the life he worked so hard to build. His family will miss him more than words can express and will continue looking for the little signs that remind them he is still near
