POST FALLS — The Sandpoint girls and boys golf teams tackled The Links Golf Course in Post Falls, which is set to host the district and state tournament this year, on Thursday. 

Both teams finished in sixth place but battled with the course that will mean the world come tournament season. The Bulldog boys were right in the thick of an intense fight, ending the day with a 321 final score, which is just eight strokes shy of second-place Lakeland's final score. 

"It was a battle," Sandpoint golf head coach Mike Deprez said. "Nobody had their best or their worst [day]. We saw consistency from Ella, Hailey, Evey and Bode." 

Bode Eacret was once again the leader for the Bulldogs, shooting a 75 from his top spot. The highlight of the day for the Sandpoint boys team was Rajah Brown, who shot a personal best 79 at The Links, which proved to be the second-best score of anyone on the team. 

Drake Reid finished the day with an 83, while Miller Ely and Landon Day both shot an 84, though Day's did not count toward the final score. As an individual, Sandpoint's Beckett Fuller played a round and shot an 89. 

Of note in the boys category, Trey Lambert of Lake City, who is proving himself to be one of the best golfers in the state, shot a 63 to tie the course record. 

The Bulldogs girls were not as close to a second-place finish as the boys, ending their day with a 411 final score. However, they were within reach of their 5A counterparts, Moscow, Lakeland and Lewiston. 

Their day was headlined by Hannah Majors, who shot a 99, and Hailey Gove, who shot a 100. Ella Mahlum and Evey Walker rounded out the Sandpoint scoring with a 105 and a 107, respectively, while Ysabelle Lopez shot a 125, which did not count toward the final score. 

Sandpoint will stay close to home for their next meet as they play at the Idaho Club on Monday, Sept. 29. That will be the last match before the Bulldogs return to The Links for the District Tournament.
