PREP ROUNDUP: Lambert ties course record, Wilson wins at Lakeland Invitational

POST FALLS — Trey Lambert, a senior at Lake City High, shot a 10-under-par 63 to tie the course record during Thursday's Lakeland Invitational at The Links Golf Club. 

Lambert tied five others, including Joseph Glenn, Derek Bayley, Zach Stockton and Tom Chen, for the record. 

"Trey has had an amazing senior season and this just adds to his accomplishments at Lake City," Lake City boys coach Nik Bjurstrom said. "He has been fun to watch golf this season, leaving a legacy that will be tough for anyone in Lake City's future to compete with. Excited to see what else he will do this season before he continues on his golf career at Boise State." 

Coeur d'Alene junior Ella Wilson was girls medalist with a 3-over-par 76. 

Coeur d'Alene swept both team titles on Thursday. 

"Our kids played outstanding today in some challenging conditions," Coeur d'Alene girls coach Jeff Lake said. "It was windy this morning and the pin placements were pretty difficult, but our golfers did a great job navigating through the round. It was a great experience for us as preparation for districts, which are a week from Monday back at The Links."

COEUR d'ALENE — The Vikings nearly pulled off the reverse sweep, but fell in the fifth set to the visiting Tigers of Spokane at Viking Court. 

Hannah Shafer totaled nine kills, 23 assists and 13 digs for Coeur d'Alene (20-5). Jovie Le had 12 kills, Marly Sutich nine kills, Maren Larson eight kills and five blocks, Emily Hackett 17 assists, Embree McKeown 29 digs, Eva Callari 15 digs, Avery Wilson and Lola Ruggiera three blocks each, Aubrey Voorhees and Julianna Hasso one ace each. 

"We didn’t get the results we wanted, but our team fought hard throughout the match," Coeur d'Alene coach Carly Curtis said. "We blocked well and kept competing for every point. Hannah had a strong all-around night, setting well and placing her attacks effectively." 

For Lewis and Clark (3-3), Madie Kornelis had 15 kills and three aces, Josie Connolly 18 assists, Mckenzie Kelly 25 digs, Presley Barkstrom three blocks. 

Coeur d'Alene plays host to Moscow on Monday.

WALLACE — The host Miners defeated the Kodiaks of Post Falls 25-16, 25-18, 18-25, 25-22 in nonleague play at Kirby Krulitz Court. 

For Kootenai Classical Academy (6-4), which had won five straight, Chaimolia Sullivan had 10 kills and five aces, Maddie Morris nine kills and 13 digs, Avery Myers 20 assists and 16 digs, Addie Armstrong two aces.

COEUR d'ALENE — Sophomore Collin Rzepa had a goal and assist, both in the second half for the Timberwolves in a nonleague win over the Bengals at the Irma Anderl Soccer Complex at Lake City High. 

"After a rough few weeks battling injuries, we're starting to get healthy again — and today was a great step forward," Lake City coach Chaz Donovan said. "Every player saw the field and contributed with purpose. I'm proud of how this team keeps working, keeps growing and keeps playing for each other."

RATHDRUM — The Hawks nearly knocked off the Bulldogs in boys soccer for the first time since 2011. 

But visiting Sandpoint, ranked No. 1 in 5A by MaxPreps, rallied from a two-goal deficit and scored the eventual game-winner on a penalty kick in the 54th minute for a 5A Inland Empire League victory at Sunrise Rotary Field. 

Cole Zlateff had two goals and an assist, and Luke Fritts had a goal and two assists for Lakeland (5-5, 2-3 5A IEL), which led 3-1 after 34 minutes. 

Sandpoint scored two minutes later, then tied it in the 53 minute, then, after a foul on the Hawks in the box, Pax Longanecker's penalty kick gave the Bulldogs (9-1-1, 4-0) their first lead of the game.  

"It's the best I've seen us play all year; we've come a long way from the first time we played them," said Lakeland coach Nick Haynes, whose Hawks lost 6-1 at Sandpoint three weeks ago. " The second half we got a little tired. But our boys fought hard; I was proud of them. We're getting better each day."  

Sophomore Cameron Ryan, making his varsity debut after being brought up from the JV, saved a penalty kick in the first half for Lakeland, which plays host to Saint Georges of Spokane on Saturday at noon for senior day.

"The players are still in the mode of erasing what happened last Saturday (a 1-0 loss at Coeur d'Alene). It's a pretty determined group and they wanted to put the ball in the back of the net and they've been spreading the ball around really well."
