The Wolfpack defense made a pair of house calls and Glacier took its largest margin of victory ever in a 70-0 Western AA football win over Missoula Hellgate Friday at Legends Stadium.
The previous largest margin of victory was 69 points in an 84-15 victory over the Knights back in 2022.
“It makes me so proud to see how our guys approach competition,” Glacier coach Grady Bennett said. “The cliche stuff. The faceless opponent. Who cares who is coming in and what their record is or what the score is. We just want to play football.”
Glacier extended its scoreless streak to four complete games and has yet to allow a touchdown in 2026.
The Wolfpack fired on all cylinders from the start as Eli Imperato found the end zone on Glacier’s opening possession from 11 yards out to make it 7-0.
Hellgate’s offense looked ready to compete on the next drive as Cannon Clark found Everett Roberts on a 40-yard flea flicker to set up the Knights in Wolfpack territory. Roberts had nine grabs for 193 yards in the game’ the rest of Hellgate’s receivers combined for six catches and 16 yards.
“Cannon was outstanding,” Bennett said. “He is a good player and you watch film and they have some guys. They have put up points on people and you can see why. He made some big plays.”
Then the Wolfpack defense forced the first of five turnovers. Cooper Pelc jumped a fourth-down pass and was off. The Glacier senior went 86 yards to the house and doubled Glacier’s lead to 14-0.
“I saw (Clark’s) shoulders. I saw him release it. I just have to go and make the play,” Pelc said. “Then I see all my boys lead blocking for me and I just have to follow that and do what I can.”
The Knights again responded offensively as Clark hit Roberts for a 62-yard gain into the Wolfpack red zone, but again Glacier didn’t fold. Clark was intercepted again, this time by Chase Sliter at the goal line.
“The (scoreless) streak to them is real,” Bennett said. “They are having fun competing and trying to keep going.”
“Now it’s about pride, we don’t want anyone getting in our end zone,” Pelc said.
Cash Keim converted that interception into more points as he found Liam Palmer for a 26-yard touchdown strike to cap off an 88-yard drive.
The Knights’ next possession ended like the previous two as Tate Kahler nabbed a tipped pass for the third Wolfpack interception of the first half.
Trey Ramey then found the end zone for the first time on a 4-yard scamper to extend the lead to 28-0. Ramey added another score later in the second quarter from one yard out.
Pelc also found the end zone on the offensive side of the ball. Keim found the senior for a 10-yard screen pass as Pelc slalomed around two defenders and into the end zone to make it 42-0 late in the second quarter.
Hellgate looked for a late drive to salvage the first half and found some success getting down to Glacier’s 30, but a fumble on the final play of the half saw Neil Pepe scoop the ball and wheel his way down the field for a 68-yard return to make it 49-0 at the half.
In the second half Latham Leeper took over a quarterback and kept the offense rolling as he found Peyton Johnson for a 56-yard touchdown.
After another Hellgate turnover, Kyle West found paydirt with a 2-yard touchdown run to extend the lead to 63-0.
Sophomore quarterback Eli Beck then capped off the game with a 4-yard pass to Johnson early in the fourth quarter to trigger the 70-point mercy rule with 11:15 left in the fourth quarter.
“We wanted to let Latham get in and let him have a couple series where he can have a normal drive, not just running the ball to run the clock,” Bennett said. “Then to bring Eli in as well, a lot of kids got on the field tonight.”
The Wolfpack next head on the road to battle Missoula Sentinel on Thursday at 7 p.m.
