Not a course record, but still great.

Polson’s Max Milton, who shot a course-record 59 on his home course on Tuesday, came back with a 65 Saturday to claim medalist honors at the Western A Divisional golf meet.

The junior put together six birdies with an eagle on the par-5 No. 14 at Polson Bay; he also had two bogeys but still beat the field by nine strokes. Dylan Wirt of Corvallis was among three players tied for second at 76; Whitefish’s Mason O’Neil was fifth at 77.

The Pirates won the boys team title with a 303 total, 10 strokes ahead of Whitefish. Soren Lund (78) and Cash Brown (79) finished in the top 15 for Polson; for the Bulldogs, Ashton Taylor (78), Wyatt Scott and Nick and Zach Schmid-Sommer were all in the top 15.

Whitefish won the girls team title by six strokes over the host Lady Pirates, 371-377. While Hamilton’s Burnett Cameron won medalist honors by eight strokes, Whitefish saw Karlee Brown (82) and Ryhlee Scott (83) finish 2-3, with Jillian Wagner also in the top 10.

Polson’s Sara Dumouchel (87), Harlie Fisher and Johanna Bieber were all top-15 golfers.

Hamilton and Corvallis were third and fourth among the girls teams. Bigfork was sixth but had two players among the top 10: Keegan Campbell (fourth at 85) and Jocelyn Holton.

The top four teams advance to the State A tournament at Shelby’s Marias Valley Golf Club Oct. 2-3. In addition, the top eight individuals not qualified on a team will make the trip.

That punches tickets for three boys players outside the Top 15: Liam Castor of Ronan (81, joining teammate Oliver Rowe), Kaden Wyant of Stevensville and Declan Oswald of Dillon.

For the girls, Columbia Falls’ Sawyer Clark and Ronan’s LaRae Mays earned the final spots.
