Law roundup: Caller tired of teens’ littering

Teens driving a black Ford were allegedly dumping tires at a bridge and arguing with someone who took their keys and called the Kalsipell Police Department, saying they wouldn’t just pick up the tires and leave. The caller was advised to give the keys back.

The teens reportedly took the tires and left only to toss them in a ditch not far away from the bridge. Officers spoke to the registered owner of the truck, who reportedly said his son was buying the vehicle from him and that he could dispose of the tires at a tire shop or the landfill. The officer said the teen would be ticketed for littering if he didn’t pick them up.

Officers received a report of alleged animal cruelty where puppies looked “unkempt and diseased” and were covered in fecal matter. A woman at the location reportedly told the responding officer that there were six dogs on the premise that had multiple owners. She allegedly showed the officer four of the dogs, which had matted fur and one had a sore on its side. The officer also reportedly saw feces on a dog leash.

A stranger allegedly opened someone’s back gate two different days, once at night and once in the morning. The resident told officers that their landlord’s gate was also opened next door and requested extra patrols in the area.

A caller asked officers to tell a trio of people who had allegedly been hanging out by a chain-link fence for several days to move along because it was near a school playground, although the caller wasn’t associated with the school. Officers saw a woman and a man who weren’t doing anything criminal on the sidewalk, so there wasn’t any reason to make contact.
