Virginia “Ginny” L. Moen

Virginia “Ginny” L. Moen, 77, passed away on Aug. 13, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. 

Born on Oct. 4, 1948, in Missoula, Montana, to the Frances and Grace (Helean) Howard, Ginny grew up deeply rooted in her community, attending St. Anthony’s Grade School and graduating from Scared Heart Academy in 1966. She went on to complete her education at Modern Business School in Missoula.

Ginny possessed an extraordinary work ethic and a natural entrepreneurial spirit. Early in her career, she worked for her family’s business, The Florence Laundry, as well as Tree Farmers (Champion International). She later moved to Libby, Montana, with her first husband, John Doyle, working for the U.S. Forest Service before the couple launched their first coin-operated business. Eventually, Ginny and John chose to take life in separate ways but always remained friends.

Ginny found her beloved Donald W. Moen and were married on Dec. 13, 1983. Over the years, Ginny worked alongside her husband at Moen Construction business, Harold’s Casino and the Wheatgrass Motel. But her main and proudest endeavor was owning and running The Mint Bar in Libby; where her warm hospitality, quick wit and generous spirit made everyone feel like family.

Above all her accomplishments, Ginny’s greatest legacy lives on through her family. She was always there supporting her grandchildren in their sports and activities that they were involved in. Her children remember her as a constant anchor-always fair, fiercely loving, and the ultimate safe space to land no matter what life brought. 

Ginny taught them the importance of generosity and modeled it daily, always stepping up to help a friend, a customer or anyone in need. She had a big heart, leaving an indelible mark on everyone who was lucky enough to know her.

Ginny was preceded in death by her parents, William Francis (Bill) Howard and Grace Howard; her beloved husband, Donald W. Moen, in 2017; her brother, Bill Howard Jr; and her sister-in-law, Dodie Howard.

She is survived by her loving children: Donald Moen (Tracie), Julianna Williams (Chad), Christina Crowley (Jerry), and Megan Wood (Brent); her 11 cherished grandchildren: Sarah Warne, Alyx Kern, Kamren Moen, Kelsey Wells, Riley Calbick, Joseph Crowley, Andi Crowley, Jacob Crowley, Hadleigh Wood, Harper Wood, and Kohen Wood; her brothers Jim Howard (Marica), Sid Howard, Gary Howard (Rhonda), and Stan Howard (Elizabeth); her sisters Joy Miles (Mike) and Helen Barnes (Richard); her sister- in-law Judy Howard (wife of late Bill Howard); great-grandchildren Raider Warne, Lenny Warne, Quinn Kern, Karsen Kern and Evanna Wells; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends.

She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered as a devoted mother, proud grandmother, sister, trailblazing businesswomen and steadfast friend to many. 

A Celebration of Life will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, 2026, at The Mint Bar.
