ST. REGIS - The St. Regis Tigers fought the good fight but the Darby Tigers had a little more fuel in their tank and moved to a 30-14 win in St. Regis Friday in Western C 8-Man football action.

Now 4-1 in league play and overall, coach Jesse Allan and his St. Regis boys head to Mission Friday for another important Western C game with the 3-2 Bulldogs.

Addled somewhat by injuries to key players, Chet Hill was out from an injury incurred in Seeley Lake several weeks ago and Nate Bohn was knocked out of Friday’s game midway through the fourth quarter, the Tigers had trouble competing with Darby’s size and depth.

“They are big and certainly a solid squad,” Allan said. “All the credit to them for playing a good game and stealing one from us.”

The game was an important one on the state-wide 8-Man scene as St. Regis came in ranked as the No. 4 team in the state and Darby was rated No. 9.

Trailing 22-6 at the half, St. Regis scored a touchdown on a three-yard pass from Conner Lulis to Bohn, and Lulis added the two-point conversion run to close the score to 22-14 with 4:37 left in the third quarter.

Unfortunately for the home crowd there to celebrate St. Regis’ homecoming, Darby added a touchdown and two-point conversion after that to produce the final scoring in the game and hold on after that for the win.

Although Allan tipped his hat to Darby, he also felt his Tigers were their own worst enemy at times. “I don’t think we played well overall, too many small mistakes, specifically in assignment and scheme,” he said. “We’ll need to clean that up for sure to be successful next week at Mission.”

Win or lose, Allan is riding with his St. Regis boys to the finish. “I’m proud of our guys’ effort, they didn't quit,” he said. “We just can’t be successful with as many mistakes as we made all night (against Darby).”
