Glacier flag football beats Hellgate, moves into 3rd

The Glacier Wolfpack flag football team secured one more home game Tuesday, riding Mikenzie Bauer’s two touchdown passes to a 20-6 win over Missoula Hellgate at Legends Stadium.
A pick-6 by Nika Wangerin set the tone for the Pack, which was coming off a loss to Crosstown rival Flathead last week, after a midseason trip to a San Diego tournament. Her 52-yard interception return at 6:22 of the first quarter put Glacier up 6-0.
“We’ve had a rough go since we traveled to California,” Glacier coach Mark Kessler said. “We’re just trying to get a little more consistent in our play. It was nice to come out and execute a little bit better. Our defense was fantastic.”
Bauer was 19 of 25 passing for 185 yards for Glacier, which improved to 5-2 in Western AA competition. That draws the Wolfpack even with the Knights for third, and Glacier owns the tie-breaker. They’ll play a Saturday play-in game for the state tournament on Saturday; the opponent and time is to be announced.
The win secured the Western AA’s top seed for Flathead (6-1), which puts the Bravettes into the state tournament in Billings and Lockwood Oct. 7-9.
Osler had seven catches for 109 yards; Bauer was the top rusher with 32 yards on four carries.
Defensively, Wangerin had eight tackles, two for losses, to go with her interception. Bentley Cartwright had 10 tackles, including two sacks.
