Hawks boys stay busy on the pitch

Coach Michael Scharfe and his Thompson Falls-Plains-St. Regis boys soccer team enjoyed a busy week of action last week, playing JV and varsity contests in Columbia Falls Tuesday, Sept. 22, a JV contest only in Frenchtown Wednesday, and wrapping up with a match against Libby in Thompson Falls Friday.
In Columbia Falls, the Wildcat JV defeated the Hawk JV 5-1 and the Columbia Falls varsity also defeated Thompson Falls 9-2.
Jayce Wickum scored the Hawks’ only goal in the JV game and Caleb Hutchings scored both Thompson Falls goals in the varsity contest, one off an assist from Koa MacKenzie and the other on a free kick.
Scharfe said the Hawks won the JV game at Frenchtown 5-3 Wednesday.
The Hawks completed their week with a 5-0 loss to Libby on Friday.
Scharfe didn’t think the result accurately reflected what happened in the match. “Our boys were definitely the better team just some unfortunate things happened that allowed Libby to score a few goals,” he said. “We had more shots on goal than Libby and feel we played our best game yet this year.”
The Hawks continue regular season play with two road matches this week, at Whitefish on Tuesday and at Bigfork on Saturday.
