John Godfrey, 76

John Godfrey, 76, beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed peacefully on Sept. 27, 2025, surrounded by love. Affectionately known as “man-guy” for his exceptional talent as a builder and his passion for the outdoors, John’s greatest joy in life was his three daughters, who will forever carry his love and gentle spirit with them.

Born into a musical family, John carried that gift throughout his life. He could often be found at the piano pounding the ivories, or strumming his twelve-string guitar, having a jam session with his friends, siblings and parents or serving as the alarm clock for his children on school mornings.

John lived a life full of adventure, earning him the title of “the most interesting man in the world” among those who knew him best. His stories captivated family and friends - whether about building villages in Samoa, living out of a van on the beaches of Mexico, or working in canneries amongst the grizzlies in Alaska. He cherished the world’s simple pleasures: casting a line on a still morning, body surfing ocean waves, carving the snowy slopes of Big Mountain, or enjoying a quiet movie night with his family.

In later years, John found endless delight in his grandchildren. Whether introducing them to his great love of fishing, watching funny puppies on YouTube or celebrating sports wins, he treasured watching them grow.

Grounded, kind, and steadfast, John had a gift for listening and offering comfort. He rarely spoke of his own struggles, instead choosing to lighten the burdens of those he loved. His presence was steady, and his heart endlessly generous.

John is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law: Jeanvieve and Chris Williamson, Gabrielle and Wes Bauman, and Noelani Shavit; his grandchildren Aydin, Kelli, Lily, Liam, and Ryker; his sisters Jacquie and Jorjette; his brother Jeff; and many lifelong friends, some of whom had been by his side since childhood.
