New Whitefish Rotary president outlines priorities for lasting impact

The Rotary Club of Whitefish has new leadership. Brian Furey is taking over the gavel from outgoing Club President, Chrystie Osborn.
Growing up near Missoula, Furey understood what service looked like from an early age. His father, Tim Furey, is a Rotarian and served in the Montana House of Representatives. To Brian, joining Rotary as a young professional was a natural step.
"Our club may have only 25 members, but we are part of something much larger. Rotary connects more than 1.4 million members in over 46,000 clubs around the world,” Furey relayed to the club membership.
He said that the Whitefish club has a lot to be proud of, including contributing over $10,000 in high school scholarships, contributing over $3,000 to Special Olympics, providing hundreds of Christmas gifts to families in need during the club sponsored Magic of Christmas, sponsoring five high schoolers on a life changing experience in Guatemala, and being part of the global water coalition delivering clean water to impoverished Guatemalans.
For his year as president, Furey highlighted two main priorities: member engagement and member growth. Piggybacking off Rotary International’s theme for the year, Creating Lasting Impact, Furey stressed that engaged members are the ones that stay in the club, serve the community, and ultimately, lead the club forward.
With increased member engagement and more opportunities to contribute, Furey’s belief is that membership numbers will rise, and the club will be positioned to create lasting effects in our community for years to come.
The Rotary Club of Whitefish meets every Tuesday at noon at the Whitefish Moose Lodge. Guests are welcome. Upcoming speakers include Rachel Thompson of the Montana World Affairs Council on Sept. 29, Christy Dawson of Montana West Economic Development on Oct. 6, and Hon. Amy Eddy of the 11th Judicial District Court on Oct. 13.
